Wood dust — both softwood and hardwood — is classified as a hazardous substance under COSHH 2002, with WELs of 5 mg/m³ and 3 mg/m³ respectively. Hardwood dust is a confirmed carcinogen. Chipping operations, sawmilling, and timber processing generate high concentrations without at-source controls. The DustBag's 2,000L standalone tank and 30-metre oscillating cannon suppresses dust at source without mains water.
Waterlogged forest tracks impede timber extraction, damage the ground, and create H&S risks for plant operators and haulage. Traditional drainage management relies on hose runs from static pump units.
